Extended Weight System

To be eligible for the Extended Weight Coal Haul System one of the following conditions must be met: (1). Coal or coal by-products in excess of 50,000 tons has been transported by motor vehicle over a road segment in a calendar year and reported to the Transportation Cabinet (2). The public highway is a state-maintained toll road or previously was a state-maintained toll road -- parkways (3). A cooperative agreement with the Department of Highways has been entered into by a company transporting coal over a specified road segment (4). A resolution has been passed by a county fiscal court requesting the Transportation Cabinet to include a road segment in the Extended Weight Coal Haul Road System.
